Recent Advances in Various Starch Formulation for Wastewater Purification via Adsorption Technique: A Review

Abstract Water purification is considered one of the most essential issues in our lives. Therefore, contamination water surfaces owing to hasty upsurge industrialization has received great global attention because its potential danger human health and eco-system. Particularly, discharge various non-biodegradable contaminants into body—heavy metal ions, organic dyes, pharmaceutical antibiotics, pesticides, oils—causes these accumulate on water's surface have harmful impacts humans environment. Several conventional methods can be applied solve this problem, including chemical oxidation, precipitation, coagulation, so on. However, they suffer from serious limitations: high cost, limited functionality, prolonged heavy energy use, poor separation efficiency. Conversely, adsorption technique recently attracted a lot for wastewater treatment thanks remarkable benefits being simple, highly selective, low-cost technique. Recently, natural polysaccharides (especially starch)-based adsorbents interest their outstanding properties, easily available, non-toxic, low-cost, biodegradable, biocompatible. it possesses notable drawbacks that prevent used alone as an adsorbent treatment, low thermal stability, slight solubility, rapid degradability water. review highlights comprehensive presentation about starch modifications: starch-based grafts, hydrogels, aerogels, beads, nanofibers, nanocomposite formulations remove several toxic contaminants, oils.
